Motorcycling

I began riding around 1992 while working at IBM and attending grad school at UT Austin. Automobile parking permits at UT are very expensive and were almost useless back then. Riding is a lot of fun, and I cannot imagine not doing it now, but fundamentally to me it is a form of transportation---I commute on the bike weekdays and do not generally ride for sport on the weekends.

In November 2005, I decided that it was time to replace my 1987 KLR650: it was getting old that I could not find a mechanic interested in working on it. (No, I am not much of a wrench.) So, I found a 1995 BMW R1100GS at Lone Star BMW here in Austin.

Long ago, when I started riding, I learned a great deal from the rec.motorcycles newsgroup and other online sources, but I have not kept track of them over the years. After getting the BMW, I decided to I needed to know more about it, and found a large number of useful links.
